Frank Lampard distances himself from Rangers manager speculation live on Sky Sports

Frank Lampard has seemingly distanced himself from the vacant managerial job at Rangers, claiming he is taking time out of the game to enjoy things he can’t do while he’s working.

The former Chelsea and Everton boss has shared how his short time out of the game since taking interim charge of the Blues last season has allowed him to step back and assess the importance of things outside of football.

Lampard has been linked with the vacant position at Rangers after Michael Beale was sacked following a number of disappointing results, with BBC journalist Luke Edwards suggesting Lampard would like to take the job.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Monday Night Football on 2 October, Lampard shared his current position: “Yeah good, less stress. I think it comes with the territory with managing, especially the stresses of the Premier League, the expectation, in any job.

“I think it’s important that you try and find the time out of the game to recharge a bit and enjoy things you don’t get the chance to do when you’re working, so I’m probably in that spot at the minute.

“It’s not always easy because you want to be the best you can be but when you’re out of a job that’s your time to come away, take some perspective and realise family is the real positive of that side.”

The right job could tempt him

As always in football, nothing is ever certain. While the 45-year-old may be happy away from football and spending time with family, it can be difficult to resist the call, especially when a club the size of Rangers comes calling.

Beale, for example, was happy at Queens Park Rangers. He’d recently turned down an offer to take over at Wolves in the Premier League and committed his future to the West London club. Then Rangers got in touch and his whole situation changed.

There is no reason the same couldn’t happen with Lampard if he is the man the chiefs at Ibrox decide they want to take the club forward. Ultimately, the love of the game and an opportunity like this could tempt anybody back into management.

Particularly given Lampard’s (low) level of success in his recent jobs, having been let go at both Everton and Chelsea as a result of poor results, the Rangers job could be the best opportunity he is given in the immediate future.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson singled out one player as the reason for Beale’s exit.
