Simon Jordan slams Rangers manager updates on Kevin Muscat
Simon Jordan has been left unimpressed by the suggestion of Kevin Muscat taking over as Rangers manager, remarking that the Light Blues need a “significant manager.”
The Light Blues parted ways with Michael Beale on Sunday evening (1 October) after a miserable start to the season, with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Aberdeen at Ibrox the final nail in the coffin for the former QPR boss’ time in Glasgow.
Former Rangers player Muscat has been one of the early names linked to the vacant position at Ibrox, alongside AZ Alkmaar boss, Pascal Jansen [talkSport, 2 October]. But, Jordan has questioned whether Muscat’s credentials make him worthy of the job.

Speaking on talkSport’s White & Jordan on Monday (2 October, 10:15) he said: “Lots of people know the club inside out. You look at the argument for Kevin Muscat. What because Kevin Muscat used to go around kicking everyone up in the air for five minutes?
“That’s what Muscat’s stock and trade is. They need a very, very, significant manager in that dugout to be able to help them bridge this gap between them and Celtic.”
Harsh
Jordan’s comments on Monday suggest he has done very little research into Muscat’s work as a manager so far in his career and is instead entirely focused on what he was like as a player, where he was combative and physical. But that hasn’t necessarily transferred into his time in the dugout.
The defender has impressed during spells in charge of Melbourne Victory and Yokohama F. Marinos, where has replaced Ange Postecoglou on both sides and even won the J League title in the 2022 campaign.

Jordan is quick to praise the excellent work that the now Tottenham boss has done, both since taking over in London and for Celtic, but has then slammed the Gers for looking at a manager with an incredibly similar career path to Postecoglou.
Every Rangers fan would likely be keen for the Light Blues to go out and acquire a big name, but the reality is the current situation at Ibrox makes it impossible for that sort of appointment to be completed. There is the argument that Beale also knew the club well and that seemingly didn’t help him, however, Muscat has proven a lot more in his short coaching career so far.
In other Rangers news, Muscat and Jansen currently seem the most likely to take over at Ibrox
