Sky Sports journo provides fresh Rangers manager update as training-ground footage emerges

Rangers are not expected to appoint a new manager before next weekend, according to Sky Sports reporter Mark Benstead.

The Gers parted company with Michael Beale on Sunday [1 October] following their 3-1 Scottish Premiership loss to Aberdeen the day before.

Kevin Muscat is considered the favourite to take over at Ibrox, while the likes of Graham Potter, Jesse Marsch and Kjetil Knutsen have also been mentioned.

Benstead provided an update on the managerial situation on Monday [2 October] as the Rangers players took part in training under caretaker boss Steven Davis.

“The club do need to take a bit of time here,” Benstead said, via Football Daily on Twitter.

“It’s our understanding that we shouldn’t expect a new man in place, at the moment, before next weekend’s game against St Mirren.”

In an ideal world, Rangers would have a new man in charge before Thursday’s [5 October] Europa League tie against Aris Limassol.

That is followed a few days later by a Scottish Premiership trip to St Mirren, before a two-week gap for the second international break of the season.

What is most important, though, is that the right appointment is made. If that means waiting another week or so, so be it.

As ever when a high-profile managerial position becomes vacant, there is plenty of speculation regarding who may be the next man in.

Every supporter will have their favourite, whether it is former Chelsea boss Graham, one-time Gers defender Muscat or perhaps an outsider.

The Gers board may well have already reached out to a few people prior to Beale’s sacking being made official at the weekend.

Fingers crossed they land their number one option when the official statement drops, whenever that may be.

In other Rangers news, another foreign manager is reportedly interested in holding talks with the Light Blues.
