Rangers manager update as delay set at Ibrox already

Rangers chiefs are looking to avoid a repeat of the Michael Beale situation and they will delay the manager search in favour of making sure they find the right man, according to Football Scotland.

According to the online news source on 2 October, Beale was appointed in a rush following the dismissal of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with no look at any other managers that could have been available.

Chairman John Bennett will reportedly allow Steven Davies to remain in his interim role as long as is deemed necessary while the search for a new boss goes on, as they look to make sure they get the right man through the doors.

Due diligence is required

Having sacked Beale earlier than anybody had expected after less than 12 months in charge, John Bennett and the rest of the Rangers board will be keen to avoid a repeat of the eventual failure they faced after bringing the Englishman to the club.

If that decision was rushed as has been suggested, then there will be even more importance placed on finding the right man, no matter how long that may take. This could mean Davies and his interim team remain in place for the foreseeable future.

For example, Kevin Muscat has already been linked as an early candidate for the job, but there have been suggestions he may not want to leave his current club while engaged in the ongoing defence of their league title. This would put a further delay if Rangers decide that he is the man.

It will be important for the long-term vision of the manager, something that Beale didn’t seem to have, to match up with that of the club. A clear focus and style of play, and an identity moving forward, are crucial.

In other Rangers news, Beale has broken his silence after his Ibrox dismissal with a classy statement.
