Rangers manager news as Kevin Muscat interested in talks already

Yokohama F. Marinos manager Kevin Muscat would be interested in speaking to Rangers about the vacant managerial position after Michael Beale was dismissed, according to talkSPORT.

The digital news publication shared via their Twitter page that Muscat is among the contenders to take over at Ibrox after Beale was dismissed following a poor run of form.

Muscat, a former player at Rangers, has been linked with the role previously, although there were reports [FTBL.com] that suggested the timing may be an issue as he continues his title defence with the Japanese side.

A number of names in the running

Muscat is one of a number of names linked with the Rangers job after Beale’s dismissal less than 24 hours ago, although he appears to be emerging as one of the front-runners for the job even at this early stage of proceedings.

Comparisons can of course be drawn with former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou who also arrived in Glasgow following a successful spell with Yokohama Marinos in Japan. If Muscat could recreate the success Postecoglou had on the other side of the city, this could be a masterstroke.

History has shown that the Rangers’ job is notoriously difficult to turn down. Beale proved that himself as he left his high-flying QPR side mid-season to move to Glasgow, and the same could now be the case with the 50-year-old.

Muscat’s former affiliation with Gers is sure to give him an edge, as an understanding of the way the club works and operates, and a previous relationship with the fans is always a help to the start of what can be a tough and demanding job.
