Rangers board to work out Michael Beale severance package as Ibrox sack view shared

The Rangers board should be working out the severance fee for Michael Beale at Ibrox after the defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday (30 September), according to Gary Keown.

Writing on page 97 of the Scottish Mail on Sunday on 1 October, the journalist said the Gers hierarchy should also be on the lookout for a “proper, experienced manager” and possibly a new director of football to try and “rescue a rapidly disintegrating campaign”.

He added that there was nothing to suggest that the Light Blues boss was “ready for a job of this magnitude” and that he needs to go and learn his trade elsewhere on the back of the 3-1 defeat to the Dons.

“It feels cruel to even harp on about this any longer,” said Keown. “The only calculations the Rangers board should be obsessing over are the severance fees for Beale and his staff and the future bill for finding a proper, experienced manager – and maybe a new director of football – to try and rescue a rapidly disintegrating campaign.

“Beale was a lazy appointment. There was nothing to suggest he was ready for a job of this magnitude. And he wasn’t. The guy really needs to go away and find somewhere to learn his trade properly – and learn from his mistakes.”

Hard to argue

It’s really hard to argue with Keown’s assessment and put forward any case for Rangers keeping hold of Beale after the defeat to Aberdeen.

While the previous performances on the field weren’t entirely convincing, the Gers picked up four straight wins and four clean sheets before the game against the Dons.

That suggested that things could potentially be moving in the right direction, but the showing on Saturday was completely unacceptable and there is no real defence for the Englishman.

The majority of his summer signings don’t look up to it at this moment in time and the title race could be just about over already, with the Light Blues seven points behind Celtic after just seven games.

The only thing that could potentially persuade the board to give him more time is that the Gers are still in the Viaplay Cup, but that shouldn’t really be enough for a club of their stature.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has shared a damning verdict on one summer signing at Ibrox.
