Rangers announce new interim manager at Ibrox as Michael Beale sacked
Rangers have announced Steven Davis as their new interim manager after Michael Beale was sacked on Sunday.
It was confirmed on 1 October that Beale has been relieved of his duties at Ibrox following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Aberdeen at Ibrox.
In an update on their official X account on Sunday night, Rangers revealed that Davis will “lead the interim management team” of Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart.
Safe hands?
Davis hasn’t ever done anything like this before.
The 38-year-old signed a contract at the end of last season so the Gers midfielder is now going to partake in a player-manager role until at least a permanent replacement for Beale is found.
He is, however, still recovering from injury so don’t expect to see the Northern Irishman naming himself in the starting line-up any time soon.
It’s not a shock to see this happen.
Davis has always been talked about as a future coach within the game, potentially even at Rangers.

No one really thought that just a few months after signing a new contract at Ibrox as a player, he’d be stepping up as the caretaker manager after Beale was fired.
Beale’s sacking isn’t a surprise based on results so far this season and neither is it a shock having seen the circumstances in which he arrived at Ibrox last year and all the behind-the-scenes developments that have happened since.
If this leads to us at least getting the league season back on track and winning the League Cup, at the very least, it’s a good move by the club.
In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has raged at a “shambolic” incident at Ibrox.
