Michael Stewart talks over BBC Sportscene pundit to blast Rangers after defeat v Aberdeen

Michael Stewart slammed Rangers’ new signings as he spoke over Neil McCann on BBC Sportscene on Saturday.

Michael Beale is under massive pressure again after the Gers lost 3-1 to Aberdeen at Ibrox on 30 September.

It was yet another dire performance which leaves the Light Blues third in the Scottish Premiership, seven points behind leaders Celtic and three points behind second-placed St Mirren after seven games.

Stewart clearly feels the summer recruitment has played a role in Rangers’ terrible start to the league campaign.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Saturday (30 September, 19m01s), host Steven Thompson said: “There were question marks over the signings brought in over the summer. Obviously, you give them time and the jury’s still out but we’re now nearly in October.”

Stewart then butted in to say: “They’re not good enough.”

McCann then tried to share his opinion with Stewart again saying: “They’re not good enough, they’re not.”

Stewart eventually settled down and McCann said: “I think they’re at a stage of being given time.”

He’s right

Rangers’ summer recruitment isn’t the only issue.

It’s definitely one of the biggest but these issues stem back from when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked and Ross Wilson’s answer to the managerial problem was to re-hire one of his mates.

Beale was unproven as a manager and although he had a lot of coaching experience at both Ibrox and other big clubs across the world, it was a lazy appointment.

The Gers are now paying massively for that mistake and for allowing an inexperienced manager to take full control of one of their biggest summers of change in years.

How many of the new signings have worked out so far?

Jack Butland is the only one with any credibility – but that also goes for all the players who were already at the club.

We’re still relying on players like Borna Barisic and Scott Wright, who clearly aren’t good enough while captain James Tavernier is proven time and time again to be a one-trick pony who shouldn’t be playing at right-back.

Rangers’ problems are as clear as day but the only option they have right now is to sack Beale and try again with a new, proper manager.

In other Rangers, a BBC journalist has shared his sack verdict on Beale.
