Journalist slams ‘poor, poor signing’ Cyriel Dessers after ‘truly awful’ Rangers display
Journalist Jonny McFarlane has lamented “truly woeful” Rangers and the signing of Cyriel Dessers as they once again failed to impress in the 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen at Ibrox.
The Rangers Review journalist criticised the £4.5million spent on Dessers after he turned in yet another disappointing performance since arriving in Glasgow over the summer.
McFarlane claimed Rangers continue to show little to no attacking threat, after they had 71% possession but failed to turn that into any sort of impressive performance, conceding three to a clinical Aberdeen side and seeing Scott Wright sent off.
Taking to his personal Twitter account following the game on Saturday (30 September), McFarlane wrote: “Rangers were truly woeful today. Aberdeen set up to rope-a-dope and executed far too easily.
“There’s little to no attacking threat from this side. Ten goals in seven Premiership matches. Cyriel Dessers looks a poor, poor signing at £4.5million.”
Another shocking performance at Ibrox
The pressure on Michael Beale’s job is sure to mount once again after yet another woeful performance from this Rangers side at Ibrox.
The lack of a clinical finisher is a particularly worrying development, with Beale having recruited Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima and Dessers in the summer in a bid to build a strong front line after the exits of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

The new arrivals are nowhere near as talented as the players they are supposed to be replacing. This goes for all over the pitch, as the only positive signing of the £13million spent on nine different players is Jack Butland. That speaks volumes about Beale’s side.
After another abject performance both from Dessers and the side as a whole, there is an overwhelming feeling of annoyance at Ibrox, and it’s difficult to see them coming out of this one in one piece.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has heaped pressure on Michael Beale after the defeat.
