Scott Wright stinks out Ibrox, 3 key pass John Lundstram shines – Rangers player ratings v Aberdeen

Rangers slumped to a miserable 3-1 home defeat against Aberdeen on Saturday (30 September) to further pile the pressure on manager Michael Beale.

Stefan Gartenmann, Jamie McGrath and Jack McKenzie scored the goals for the visitors in their shock victory, with Abdallah Sima netting for the hosts, who finished the match with 10 men after a red card for Scott Wright.

Here Ibrox News rates the Rangers players out of 10 for their performances from their Scottish Premiership loss against Aberdeen.

rangers

Jack Butland – 5

The goalkeeper has settled in very well following his summer move, and he performed admirably again with three saves, but at the same time will be frustrated to have conceded three times (SofaScore).

James Tavernier – 6

Yet another impressive display from the captain, who did his utmost to lead by example as he so often does, with Tavernier winning all three of his aerial duels.

Connor Goldson – 4

The centre-back tried to keep the scoring as low as possible thanks to his three tackles, but it was an ultimately unsuccessful day for him and his fellow Gers defenders.

Ben Davies – 4

The former Liverpool man had plenty to do when Aberdeen were breaking, and he did his best to stop those breaks as he made four clearances, but like Goldson will be very disappointed to have conceded three goals.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 4

Tried his best to get forward and help his attackers at Ibrox, but the left-back did not impress with his crossing, completing just two of his eight attempted deliveries before being hooked at half-time for Borna Barisic.

Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz

Jose Cifuentes – 5

Was kept busy in the midfield at Ibrox, but the summer arrival failed to settle into the game and was outmuscled as he won just two of his 10 duels.

John Lundstram – 7 (Man of the Match)

It was by no means a world-class performance from the midfielder, but he can leave Ibrox with his head held highest in terms of Rangers players thanks to his three key passes and three out of four duels won.

Ryan Jack – 6

Pulled the strings expertly at Ibrox to keep things ticking over as best as he possibly could, with the midfielder completing 98% of his passes. He was, however, surprisingly replaced by Scott Wright at half-time as Beale searched for an equaliser.

Sam Lammers – 6

An admirable performance from the attacker, who was a threat for Beale’s side on the ball, with the summer signing completing six of his eight attempted dribbles.

Cyriel Dessers – 3

Had several opportunities to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes but couldn’t quite take them, with the striker registering just 25 touches of the ball before being replaced by Zak Lovelace late on.

Rangers

Abdallah Sima – 5

Did not have any real impact for large parts of the game at Ibrox before his goal in the 76th minute, with the on-loan man very busy but failing in the final third with one shot on target and five off it.

Substitutions

Scott Wright (on for Jack, 45′) – 1

Was brought on for Jack at half-time in a bid to take the game to Aberdeen, but the winger failed to impress during his 26-minute cameo, with Wright seeing red in the 71st minute after a second yellow card, the first of which arrived in the 55th minute.

Borna Barisic (on for Yilmaz, 45′) – 6

Was definitely a step up from Yilmaz at left-back, with the Croatian trying to inject some life into his teammates. He impressed on the ball with four key passes.

Zak Lovelace (on for Dessers, 84′) – N/A
