Kenny Miller slams Rangers recruitment as ‘not been good enough’ verdict shared

Recruitment at Rangers has “not been good enough” in recent times, according to BBC Sport pundit Kenny Miller.

The Gers brought a total of nine players to Ibrox in the summer transfer window, with Miller praising only Jack Butland out of that group.

The Glasgow club suffered their third defeat of the Scottish Premiership season with a 3-1 home loss to Aberdeen on Saturday (30 September).

“Recruitment at Rangers has not been good enough and it’s not just in the last window,” Miller said on BBC Sportsound, as quoted by BBC Sport. “It goes back a couple of seasons now.

“Outside of Jack Butland, no one has hit the ground running. Todd Cantwell is a big loss, Tom Lawrence is a big loss. The buck stops with the manager, but players have to take responsibility too. They should have enough to deal with any level of domestic opposition.”

Pressure rises

Rangers manager Michael Beale has been under pressure for quite some time, but that has now intensified following the shock loss against Aberdeen.

The Dons have been poor this season under Barry Robson, but they left Ibrox with all three points with a superb victory.

That came as a surprise to everyone watching on, not least the man in the home dugout, who was enjoying a successful spell before the match.

The Gers were on a strong run heading into the clash at Ibrox, but all of their hard work has now come undone with the miserable defeat to Aberdeen.

Beale will, of course, now come under plenty of scrutiny, with the manager playing a key role in bringing a long list of players to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Butland has impressed between the sticks, but his fellow summer signings have not exactly lived up to expectation in blue so far.
