BBC Sport journalist shares Michael Beale sack verdict after Rangers transfer ‘failings’

There will be questions regarding Michael Beale’s future at Rangers after the club’s defeat to Aberdeen, according to BBC Sport journalist Nick McPheat.

The Gers suffered a 3-1 Scottish Premiership loss to the Dons on Saturday (30 September), leaving them seven points behind leaders Celtic.

The home side finished the match with 10 men after substitute Scott Wright was shown two yellow cards within a 16-minute second-half spell.

“Given the reaction from the remaining Ibrox support at full time, there will now be questions about whether Beale can survive this latest defeat,” McPheat wrote for BBC Sport.

“Previous Ibrox manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst exited while nine points behind Celtic after 15 games. Beale is currently seven adrift after seven.

“The Rangers boss is currently hampered by injuries to key first-team regulars, but the fact that the absences of Kemar Roofe and Rabbi Matondo are seriously impacting his side probably highlights the failings in his summer recruitment.”

Miserable

After a lengthy spell of pressure on the Rangers manager, a string of positive results earlier this month helped Beale regain the trust of many supporters.

But such trust has now completely evaporated following the shock defeat to Aberdeen, a result that not many fans across either club were expecting.

The dons travelled to Ibrox struggling near the bottom of the table, with Rangers in good form, particularly defensively.

And it looked for all the world that it would be a continuance of that form on Saturday, with the home side controlling things in the opening stages.

But they couldn’t take advantage of their early dominance, with the attackers on the pitch wasting the opportunities that fell their way.

Aberdeen expertly soaked up the pressure and then burst into life to stun those inside Ibrox with three goals.

It now remains to be seen what the Rangers board have in mind for Beale, but his future now really is up in the air.
