Jo Potter eyes Rangers Women silverware ahead of Sky Sports Cup clash with Hearts
Rangers Women’s boss Jo Potter is hoping her Light Blues side can retain their Sky Sports Cup title, ahead of their tournament opener against Hearts.
The Gers get their season back underway following the international break when they travel to face Hearts on Sunday (1 October) in the second round of the Sky Sports Cup, while they currently sit top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League after their 12-0 thrashing of Montrose Ladies.
Although Potter is keen to lift her first silverware since taking over as manager of Rangers, she has been keen to not allow her side to get ahead of themselves as they prepare to face a Hearts side who currently sit fifth in the league.
Speaking to Rangers TV on Thursday (28 September) she said: “We want to go as far as we can in every single competition, we want to win every game. As Rangers staff and Rangers players that’s our ultimate goal, but we don’t take it for granted we don’t take it lightly.
“We know what Hearts can oppose, we know they’re going to be full of confidence. They gave Celtic a really good run last time out, so it’s a threat we’ve got to be aware of.
“I think the winning mentality is huge, knowing what it means to win that cup, knowing how it feels to win that cup and trying to remember those feelings of sanding on that podium lifting the cup that day. I think everybody has fond memories of it, but as I keep saying, it’s a process to get there.
“We can’t just be expected to win we can’t take teams lightly and Hearts is by no means an easy game.”
Winning mentality
It’s clear that Potter and her side are completely on board with what it means to be Rangers players, they understand the demand for silverware and are desperate to win every competition that they are a part of, no matter who they have to face.
But what is even more impressive is how she has managed to ensure her side doesn’t become arrogant and begin to expect to win competitions. There are a lot of games to be played in all competitions this season so the Gers can’t afford to become complacent.

Hearts will pose a good test, but Potter’s side should be expecting to come out on top, especially given how they have started the season. When the two teams faced off in the league earlier this season Gers won 2-1 away from home thanks to goals from Rio Hardy and Chelsea Cornet.
Hopefully, Sunday can be the start of another excellent cup run for the Light Blues and maybe Potter can lift her first piece of silverware since taking over at Rangers.
