Michael Beale still has reason to smile at Rangers despite ‘really poor’ win v Motherwell
Rangers climbed the Scottish Premierhsip table thanks to their 1-0 win against Motherwell on Sunday (24 September).
Summer signing Cyriel Dessers scored the only goal of the game at Ibrox, but the striker knew little of it after unintentionally getting in the way of a Rabbi Matondo effort.
Despite the three points, Gers manager Michael Beale expressed real discontent at the display. “From the first minute onwards I was unhappy with the team,” said Beale, as quoted by Sky Sports (24 September).

“The unforced errors with the ball are unacceptable for players playing here. That performance was a really poor one.”
It may have been a poor performance, but the man in the dugout ought to start looking at the bigger picture, with his side picking up an importan three points to edge them closer to fierce rivals Celtic.
The Gers boss has been under huge pressure lately, with that pressure perhaps at its highest following the club’s 1-0 defeat to the Bhoys earlier this month.
Since then, however, Rangers have won all three of their matches, defeating both St Johnston and Motherwell in the league and Real Betis in the Europa League.

Moreover, all three victories have produced clean sheets, with the games ending 2-0, 1-0 and 1-0 respectively. That alone should be enough for Beale to smile and perhaps ease off his players, or at least his defenders, who are clearly doing something right.
Another clean sheet should be the aim for those defenders when the Gers meet Livingston in the League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday (27 September).
In other Rangers news, a BBC Sport journalist was wowed by one Gers player who was Man of the Match in the 1-0 win against Motherwell.
