James Tavernier impresses, John Souttar struggles – Rangers player ratings v Motherwell

Rangers picked up all three points in their Scottish Premiership clash against Motherwell on Sunday (24 September) with a 1-0 win at Ibrox.

Striker Cyriel Dessers scored the only goal of the match, although his touch from Rabbi Matondo’s 24th minute strike was unintentional.

Here Ibrox News rates the Gers players out of 10 for their performances in the important Scottish Premiership victory.

rangers

Jack Butland – 7

A strong showing from the new Rangers hero between the sticks, with Butland making three saves on his way to another clean sheet [SofaScore].

James Tavernier – 8 (Man of the Match)

Yet another strong showing from the Gers skipper, who registered four tackles and an 81% passing accuracy during his 90 minutes at Ibrox.

Connor Goldson – 7

The centre-back continued his impressive displays at the back by winning nine of his 11 duels against an attacking Motherwell side.

Ben Davies – 6

The former Liverpool man made three clearances, and he will have been happy to play a key part in his club’s clean sheet.

Borna Barisic – 6

Tried to get forward as much as possible but was forced into plenty of defending in which the full-back did well, making a match-high six interceptions.

Rangers

Jose Cifuentes – 5

A very impressive performance on the ball, with the summer signing completing 50 of his 51 passes, a success rate of 98%.

John Lundstram – 6

Battled it out in midfield against an aggressive Motherwell side, with the former Premier League man boasting a 91% passing accuracy.

Rabbi Matondo – 5

Won’t get the credit for the early goal, but certainly played his part as his strike deflected off Dessers and into the back of the net before his substitution in the 38th minute due to injury. The winger won four of his eight duels before leaving the pitch.

Sam Lammers – 7

Did his best to get on the scoresheet at Ibrox but his lack of goals at his new club continued. He did, however, impress in terms of his accuracy, registering four shots on target.

Scott Wright – 6

Back into Michael Beale’s thoughts, and it was an Ibrox showing that the winger can be somewhat proud of as he won nine of his 12 ground duels.

Cyriel Dessers – 5

Gets the credit for the goal even if unintentional, and will be happy to add to his Rangers tally, but he was dribbled twice during his time on the pitch, more than any other Gers player.
