BBC Sport journalist wowed by Rangers ‘standout’ John Lundstram in Man of the Match display v Motherwell

John Lundstram “drew the acclaim” of Rangers supporters thanks to his Man of the Match display against Motherwell, according to BBC Sport journalist Martin Dowden.

The midfielder played the entire 90 minutes as the Gers won the league game 1-0 at Ibrox on Sunday (24 September).

The victory takes Michael Beale’s side ahead of Motherwell and into third place in the Scottish Premiership table, with the club now on 12 points.

“John Lundstram was the one standout for Rangers in a performance lacking quality,” Dowden wrote for BBC Sport.

“He offered impetus and drive to get things moving and drew the acclaim of a largely frustrated home crowd.”

Experience key

It was perhaps the experience of Lundstram that helped him win his midfield battles at Ibrox, with such experience very helpful when the team are not performing to the best of their abilities.

His manager Beale will not be too pleased with the performance, but he should be pleased with the result given how it takes them closer to the top of the table.

Moreover, it is now three successive victories for the Gers following their 1-0 home defeat to Celtic at the beginning of the month.

Also pleasing to the boss will be the fact that his defence has kept clean sheets in all three of those matches, which involve 1-0 wins against Motherwell and Real Betis and a 2-0 win against St Johnstone.

The club must continue their good run of form in their next fixture, which is a League Cup quarter-final test against Livingston on Wednesday (27 September).
