BBC Sport journalist shares Rangers ‘relief’ verdict after win v Motherwell as ‘frustrated’ claim made
Rangers will feel relieved to have defeated Motherwell 1-0, according to BBC Sport Scotland journalist Martin Dowden.
The Glasgow outfit picked up all three points in their Scottish Premiership encounter at Ibrox on Sunday (24 September).
Cyriel Dessers scored the only goal of the match, with Rabbi Matondo’s 24th-minute strike deflecting off the summer signing.

“Rangers got away with one here,” Dowden wrote for BBC Sport. “A deflection proved decisive in a match in which Motherwell really gave them a game.
“They will feel so frustrated at the outcome. Rangers will feel relief to have taken the points and move on. Home fans were far from convinced.”

Three points
It wasn’t special in any way from Michael Beale’s side, and the manager won’t be impressed with his players. The Ibrox faithful will not be impressed either, having watched on as their side limped to a narrow 1-0 win.
However, there cannot be many people connected to the Glasgow club who will be upset at the fact they picked up three points.
One of the aims this season was to close the gap on fierce rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, and Rangers did that in their 1-0 win against Motherwell.
Beale’s men are now four points off Brendan Rodgers’s side, a gap they will continue trying to close in the coming weeks.
Summer signing Dessers meanwhile can hardly claim the goal, but even the deflected strike should do his confidence some good.
Up next for the Gers is a hugely important League Cup quarter-final meeting with Livingston on Wednesday (27 September).
