Todd Cantwell sends five-word message to Rangers fans after victory v Real Betis

Todd Cantwell has sent Rangers fans a five-word message through social media after the club’s triumphant victory against Real Betis.

Taking to Instagram (21 September), the injured midfielder praised the victory, with Michael Beale’s side securing a hard-fought 1-0 Ibrox win in the Europa League opener.

Cantwell, an injury victim of the Old Firm clash earlier in September, watched the encounter from Ibrox.

Cantwell said: “Great win Mon the gers”.

Support from the sidelines

Cantwell is no stranger to connecting with Rangers fans through social media, so unsurprisingly he took the time to congratulate his teammates on what could prove a significant victory.

Betis are, on paper, Rangers’ toughest opponents in their Europa League group stage, so securing an early win and three points, while preventing Manuel Pellegrini’s side from climbing the table, could go a long way in achieving progression to the knockout rounds.

The 25-year-old would have been itching to get on the pitch against the La Liga side but is still set for a number of weeks on the sidelines due to a knee injury, with Beale claiming he could miss up to four matches.

From the sidelines, Catwell witnessed his side claim a crucial victory, not just for the club’s European ambitions, but perhaps for Beale’s job security this season.

Rangers did not secure their victory in emphatic style, with Abdallah Sima throwing himself at the ball in the midst of a penalty box scramble. However, the Gers deserved the victory. Per SofaScore, Beale’s men blocked nine shots, had 2.81 xG and 18 total shots – stats many would not have expected against such tough opposition.

Cantwell will likely be returning to a dressing room much different to the one that he left with the mood slowly changing at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues’ squad value has been shared and they have no excuse to not at least reach the knockout stages this season
