Journalist rages at Rangers after no Scottish players named in starting XI v Real Betis

Rangers and Michael Beale have been blasted by journalist Ewan Murray after they named zero Scottish players in their starting lineup to play Real Betis.

The Gers claimed a huge three points in their opening Europa League fixture of the season, with Abdallah Sima’s goal the difference between the two sides.

But The Guardian journalist Murray noticed no Scottish players in the team’s starting lineup after Ryan Jack was left on the bench, and he let everyone know he was unhappy about it.

“Scottish players in Rangers starting XI: zero,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (21 September).

“However you cut and explain it, it’s a bad look.”

So?

The identity and culture of Rangers Football Club is unapologetically Scottish, so why does it matter which players are representing us?

The club needs to be at it’s best to be able to compete for honours, and the fact of the matter is that the best Scottish players are too good to be playing in the SPFL these days and the rest probably aren’t up to our high standards.

Rangers

There are obvious exceptions like Jack, but Celtic will also be looking to sign the best of the rest Scottish talent and it’s just one of those things.

Football is a universal game and regardless of where the players wearing the shirt are from, so long as they give everything for the badge it doesn’t matter what country they’re from.

It’s a silly view from Mr. Murray to hold, and it’s great that the team kept him nice and quiet beyond this comment by getting a vital win at Ibrox.
