Daily Record rate Rangers duo 2/10 for performances in Europa League win v Real Betis
Both Cyriel Dessers and Dujon Sterling earned themselves poor match ratings for Rangers despite beating Real Betis in the Europa League, according to the Daily Record.
As reported in their print edition (22 September, pg 58), the pair managed a 2/10 match rating after being brought on together in the 89th minute to replace Abdallah Sima and Kemar Roofe.
Sima earned the crucial goal in the second half to secure the Gers a surprise victory against the Spanish giants, but Dessers and Sterling did not make a significant impact in the closing moments of the game.

The Record said: “Cyriel Dessers 2: Fresh legs for the final stages. Dujon Sterling 2: Helped stiffen the defence.”
Harsh
There were only five minutes of added time given at Ibrox, even the most critical of fans couldn’t blame the pair for not having a huge impact on the game.
The paper is mildly complimentary of their performances as they did do what was asked of them. The pair just had to see the game out, and two pairs of fresh legs would certainly have helped against the tiring Betis attack.

The paper is much more complimentary of the rest of Michael Beale’s side, giving Jack Butland Man of the Match with an 8/10 rating, captain James Tavernier a 7/10 and goalscorer Sima a 6/10.
Presumably, the Record only gave both Dessers and Sterling such low ratings because they only played six or so minutes, but the pair won’t care about their ratings after securing an important win in their opening European clash.
Neither player hardly had a touch on the ball. Per SofaScore, Dessers earned himself one accurate pass and lost possession twice, while Sterling doubled the Dutchman’s passing with two.
But, this was their role. Beale likely just gave them one simple instruction: don’t let Betis score.
In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist was left stunned by what he saw in the first half against Betis.
