Bailey Rice ‘ready’ for first-team action in Rangers ‘madhouse’ – Michael Beale

Michael Beale claimed that young Rangers defensive midfielder Bailey Rice is “ready” for first-team action.

As quoted by FootballScotland (21 September), the Gers boss suggested the club had a “heck of a player” on their hands after arriving at Ibrox last season.

Beale also emphasised the importance of protecting the youngster, who turns 17 next month, but has backed Bailey to thrive amid a hectic time at the club.

Beale said: “We know that we’ve got Ryan Jack and I’m telling you, we’ve got a heck of a player in Bailey Rice. He’s 16 and not 17 until the end of next month. So when I introduce him to this madhouse, my protection of him will be important. But I’m telling you, he’s ready.”

High praise

Beale, hot off the back of their Europa League triumph against Real Betis, sang the praises of his teenage sensation.

The boss quite accurately described the club as a “madhouse”, given their up-and-down form over the last few weeks, but the Betis win has certainly done a lot to recoup some faith among the Ibrox support.

A happier environment, with far less tension, would be ideal for Bailey if he wants to finally crack the first team, having made his senior debut in a 3-0 victory over Livingston in February.

That was merely a cameo, however, with the 16-year-old coming on as a late substitute for Ryan Kent, but if Beale’s comments are to be believed, the former Motherwell youth star could be well on his way.

He’s not made the bench for Beale this season in the league but found himself in the squad for Rangers’ League Cup victory over Morton earlier this season. His impact may be felt later in the season as Beale may want the tension at Ibrox to reduce even further.

That being said, Beale’s comments are very encouraging. There could be a wonder kid brewing in the background in Glasgow.
