Kris Boyd: Michael Beale under ‘Severe’ pressure at Rangers after Chris Sutton quizzing live on Sky Sports
Michael Beale will be under “severe pressure” as Rangers boss when he returns to Ibrox in the coming weeks, according to former striker Kris Boyd.
Beale’s job is reportedly on the line after defeats to PSV and Celtic before the international break, with a huge clash against St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon the scene of where Giovanni van Bronckhorst saw the final nail put in his coffin at the club.
And while appearing on Sky Sports (16 September, 12:05) Chris Sutton put the pressure on Boyd as to what would happen if Rangers didn’t win that game at McDiarmid Park.
“They have to start winning games, and not only that, start winning them comfortably,” he said.
Sutton then interrupted him abruptly and asked what the “consequences” would be if Beale didn’t beat St Johnstone on Saturday, to which Boyd responded.
“Looking at it, you get the feeling and as I say there’s a lot of fans, it’s now getting to the stage that it was under Giovanni van Bronckhorst last season.
“Rangers came here and lost the game and we saw what happened after that. It was past the point of no return for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
“I think if Rangers lose here today then Michael Beale is under severe pressure.
“You’ve then got four games at home, four out Rangers’ next five are at home after today and you just get the feeling that going back to a packed Ibrox, you don’t want to be hearing those boos again.
“But if results don’t improve then you’re going to be under massive pressure.”
Severe
Boyd knows all about life and expectations at Rangers, and he will know that a defeat today simply won’t be acceptable under any circumstances.

This is a game that this team should be winning 10 times out of 10 with the quality we have, and with so much on the line the players should know that too.
A huge Europa League clash this Thursday at Real Betis will be a nasty reminder to fans that there is no Champions League football this season, and Beale will want to go into that game with as much good will as possible.
He will be well aware of reports about an approach for Graham Potter and whether it’s true or not, he will also have seen the reaction from fans that were delighted about it.
He needs to turn things around and quickly, and that starts with a comfortable win and excellent performance against St Johnstone today.
In other Rangers news, Beale could be sacked if Rangers lose to St Johnstone today says one Daily Record journalist.
