Michael Beale ‘shaky ground’ verdict shared, Rangers manager in ‘dodgy territory’

Michael Beale should be worried about his position as Rangers manager, according to The Daily Telegraph’s Luke Edwards.

The journalist believes the Rangers boss is currently on “shaky ground,” and will not be happy reading about Graham Potter’s links to the club.

According to The Sun (13 September), the former Chelsea manager was approached about the Ibrox job, but turned down the opportunity.

“Michael Beale has lost two out of four games so far,” Edwards said on the Football Gossip Daily podcast (14 September). “Lost the Old Firm derby, lost the first game of the season to Kilmarnock. He’s on very shaky ground, dodgy territory.

“I would be worried if I was reading these sorts of stories about other managers turning down a job that you’re in, because it doesn’t look particularly good for your long-term job prospects.

“However, in management, it all comes down to results. In six weeks’ time, they might have won every single game and are top of the Scottish Premiership, and he’s laughing and saying ‘how dare you talk about me being under pressure.’”

Pressure rising

The pressure really is rising on Rangers manager Beale, and unfortunately it is for many reasons. The first is, of course, the club’s poor start to the new season, with the Ibrox outfit currently four points off fierce rivals Celtic, who sit top of the standings.

Moreover, the Gers were also knocked out of the Champions League thanks to a painful 7-3 aggregate loss to PSV, despite being in the tie after the first leg.

The second reason for the pressure rising is the fact that the manager brought nine new players to the club in the summer transfer window.

Some have impressed early on, but the majority have failed to hit the heights expected of them, and Rangers really isn’t a club where players are allowed time to settle in.

But the whole squad and indeed the manager must up their game in the coming weeks, or it really could be the end of Beale’s tenure at Ibrox.
