Rangers crying out for another centre-back signing at Ibrox – Chris Jack

Chris Jack believes Rangers need to sign a new centre-back due to the lack of defensive options in the squad.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube Channel on Wednesday (13 September), the journalist said the squad that was announced for the Europa League on Tuesday (12 September) “sums up” the Gers’ recruitment.

It comes after Michael Beale brought in several new players following his summer rebuild, but the Light Blues manager failed to really add to his defensive options.

“I think the squad that’s been submitted probably sums up the recruitment,” said Jack. “I think it’s crying out for another centre-half.”

Leaky defence

The defensive frailties within the side have been highlighted already this season following a tricky start for the Rangers backline.

They were run ragged by PSV in the Champions League qualifiers and would have conceded more than just five if it wasn’t for Jack Butland in goal.

It just feels as though some fresh blood is needed at centre-half if the Gers want to tighten up at the back and compete for trophies this season.

Rangers

As Jack pointed out, with just Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Ben Davies as the options in the centre of defence, where is the depth? It’s pretty much nonexistent.

After Beale spent most of the summer bringing in new attackers, big questions need to be asked about why more defenders weren’t drafted in, as that decision could potentially prove costly as the season goes on.
