Chris Jack shares verdict as Rangers squad news emerges

Chris Jack admits the Rangers squad for the Europa League may be “top-heavy” after it was announced on Tuesday (12 September).

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube Channel on Wednesday (13 September), the journalist said the Gers’ European campaign will “certainly be interesting” after as many as nine attacking players were all included in the squad.

He expects there to be goals in the Light Blues’ matches in the competition as they look to bounce back following an unconvincing start to the season.

“Fair to say it’s a bit top-heavy in terms of attackers,” said Jack. “It should certainly be interesting this Europa League if that’s how we’re going to set up. I think we can expect goals over the next few weeks.

The Rangers squad includes keepers Jack Butland, Robby McCrorie and Kieran Wright, while James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar, Borna Barisic, Dujon Sterling and Ben Davies make up the defence.

Jose Cifuentes, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Nico Raskin are the only midfielders, with the forwards including Cyriel Dessers, Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers, Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence, Danilo, Kemar Roofe, Abdallah Sima and Scott Wright.

Goals expected

There isn’t much doubt about the fact that goals should be expected in Rangers’ games in the Europa League, as Jack pointed out.

But the journalist is probably right that the side is a little too top-heavy as a couple of those forwards are unlikely to make it onto the field at any point, while the options in midfield are quite limited.

Perhaps that says a lot about where Michael Beale went wrong in the summer after bringing in several attackers without really improving other areas of his squad.

Rangers

The defeat to PSV in the Champions League playoffs was a real eye-opener on where the side are currently at as there was a distinct lack of quality on display from the Light Blues.

But as the international break is coming to an end, a lot of the new recruits will have a point to prove and they will be looking to help the club compete well in Europe this season.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has revealed there has been a fallout of “epic proportions” behind the scenes at Ibrox.
