Alfredo Morelos speaks about Rangers as he’s unveiled as new Santos signing

Alfredo Morelos hopes to use his European experience from his time at Rangers to bring success to Santos, after struggling with a “complicated” injury last season.

The Colombian forward played a bit part role under Michael Beale last season at Ibrox, managing to make 30 appearances in the Scottish Premiership mostly from the bench, but he still scored 12 goals in all competitions.

Morelos has since revealed he was plagued with injury issues during his final campaign in Glasgow and has admitted that he was frustrated with how his time with Rangers ended, but remains confident he can use the experience he gained during his time in Brazil.

Rangers

In quotes reported by the Daily Record (12 September), the striker said: “Obviously, there wasn’t a lot of game time at Rangers last season due to a very complicated injury, but I accepted things as they were. It was a still a season of scoring twelve goals, obviously I didn’t play most of the main matches.

“But it was a very nice feeling to play in Europe, in the Europa League and the Champions League. I have done important things in European football in my short career. I’m going to carry that experience with me to Santos, what I want is to bring it to the institution of this club, a very big one, with this vision and this desire.”

Complicated

For most, it seemed as though Morelos was playing at nowhere near the standaerd to be effective for Rangers last season rather than struggling with injury, but his comments seem to suggest there was something more complicated going on in terms of his fitness.

What is clear is how much the Colombian enjoyed his time in Glasgow and that he has learnt a great deal during his time with Rangers, despite it being frustrating that he couldn’t bow out in the fashion he showed he was capable of previously.

Rangers

Whether or not the Gers’ season would have been much different had Morelos been fit to play in the “main matches” as he puts it is doubtful, but had he been fully fit maybe he could have played his way into a new contract.

Beale’s side are struggling to score consistently currently, despite the sizeable investment made to refresh the forward line after Morelos and Ryan Kent were allowed to depart as free agents and you have to wonder whether or not they would have been better off keeping the Colombian at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Beale may have been proven right in his decision to let Ianis Hagi depart Ibrox after his recent international display
