Rangers transfer news as Light Blues failed to complete deal for Ibrahim Adel

Rangers failed in their attempt to sign Egypt forward Ibrahim Adel this summer with the Light Blues failing to agree on a deal, according to Team Talk.

The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (10 September) that Michael Beale’s side was one of many clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old this summer and even held talks with Egyptian club Pyramids to try and secure his services, only for the sides to not agree on a deal.

Adel had appeared on the radar of several clubs following his successful Under 23 African Cup of Nations performance, where Egypt ultimately lost in the final, but the attacker was named as the player of the tournament.

Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham and Brighton had all been monitoring the 22-year-old while clubs in Belgium had also identified him as a potential target, only for the Light Blues to be the team to come closest to reaching an agreement for his future.

Despite the transfer window being closed for the majority of the world, there is still a chance Adel may deputy Egypt this summer, with clubs in Russia keen on signing the attacker should they be able to agree a deal before their deadline on Thursday (14 September).

More attacking options

Rangers were linked with a whole host of different forward options this summer and for a majority of the window, it felt like they managed to sign them all, with Beale making nine new additions at Ibrox as he looked to reenergise his side after a difficult campaign last year.

Adel can play anywhere across the frontline, but is predominantly a left-winger and may well have offered the Rangers boss the Ryan Kent replacement he hoped to sign in the final days of the transfer window [Daily Record, 22 August].

Despite being a young player, the 22-year-old has plenty of experience, already making 110 appearances in all competitions, but has a fairly modest goal return, only managing 35 involvements in over 6,500 minutes of action.

It could be argued that the turnover at Ibrox was already too major this summer and that could be the reason behind Rangers’ slow start to the campaign both domestically and in Europe. While the addition go Adel may have provided the Gers with more quality in the final third, it could have also been another incoming too many.

We’ll likely never know how close a deal was for the Eqyptian forward, but an extra attacking option would have probably given Rangers fans something to be a bit more excited about in an otherwise bleak start to the season.
