Ridvan Yilmaz could leave Rangers in days as Besiktas transfer won’t go away

Rangers could be set to lose yet another first-team player despite the transfer window being shut with Ridvan Yilmaz still linked with a move away.

The Turkey left-back has struggled since a £4m move to Ibrox last summer, having made just eight appearances in the Scottish Premier League last season due to a number of injuries.

Many saw this year as a fresh start for him to take over from Borna Barisic at left-back, but injuries mean he has so far been restricted to just 25 minutes of action this season too.

Rumours now have emerged that Ridvan has been told he can leave Ibrox on loan, with former club Besiktas looking to take their academy graduate back to Istanbul.

The transfer window in Scotland may be slammed shut now meaning no incoming are allowed, but in Turkey the window is open until September 15th meaning an exit is still possible.

The club have moved quickly to shut down rumours of a potential transfer for Barisic to Dinamo Zagreb this month, although a January move was always touted as more likely for the Croatia international anyway.

But they haven’t been as quick to keep the rumours down about Ridvan, and while a move has never materialised there is no smoke without fire and there has been a lot of smoke ever since he joined.

When Barisic was ruled out of the Old Firm derby last week despite Ridvan being fit enough to be on the bench it was Dujon Sterling who got the nod to start, suggesting that he may now be third-choice in his only position.

If that is the case then the chances of him getting more minutes are slim and he won’t want to stick around.

Michael Beale has made it clear that he has his favourites in this squad and it seems that Yilmaz isn’t one of them. An exit in the coming days shouldn’t be ruled out.
