Scott Arfield details the ‘huge regrets’ he has with Rangers
Despite the “immense pride” he had in wearing the shirt, Rangers did not win enough trophies during his time at the club, according to Scott Arfield.
The former Gers midfielder left at the end of last season with his contract having expired, joining Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Filip Helander and the retiring Allan McGregor in saying goodbye to Ibrox.
He has since joined FC Charlotte in MLS, where the 34-year-old has scored three times in 11 appearances. Having played over 230 times for Rangers, and winning both a league title and the Scottish Cup, the former Canada international has now revealed his “huge regrets” from his time in Glasgow.

“There is immense pride in representing the club, moments I’ll never forget. But there are huge regrets that there were so many trophies we didn’t win,” Arfield told The Athletic (7 September).
“You can’t pass the blame. We were a strong team. I speak to fans and ex-players who say our Europa League final team [they lost in the final to Frankfurt in 2022] was better than the 2008 UEFA Cup final team, but that means nothing.”
Missed opportunity
For supporters of Rangers, it will be difficult enough to relive the UEFA Europa League final defeat from 2022, so it is hard to imagine just how tough it was for the players who actually took part to stomach the loss. Getting that close to European glory and falling at the final hurdle is something that even the strongest of players would struggle to put behind them.
Arfield is absolutely spot on. For the quality of the teams the Light Blues had during his time at the club, he is right to look back and feel as if they could have been more successful, and he is probably not alone in thinking that.

Plenty of other ex-Gers stars probably share a similar sentiment, although now, it is about looking forward. Fans will not be interested in missed opportunities anymore, as they will be keen to create new ones.
And with his time as a Rangers player well and truly over, it sounds as if Arfield will at least be cheering his former team on from the States.
In other Rangers news, a fresh twist has emerged as one star linked with an exit is now set to stay.
