Dean Jones shares ‘concerning’ update on Sam Lammers as Rangers career starts slow
Dean Jones has said Sam Lammers has not been good enough so far at Rangers, but his loss of confidence is becoming concerning as time drags on.
Lammers has scored just one goal in nine matches for the Ibrox club since arriving from Sampdoria for £3million earlier this summer and has failed to impress alongside many of his teammates in a slow start to his Rangers career.
Jones has claimed the striker’s body language is becoming a concern, as he is desperate to give the Ibrox crowd the return they are expecting of him, which can impact badly on his performances.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on 7 September, the former Eurosport journalist stated: “Obviously, one goal from nine matches isn’t a good enough return.
“But you can start to see the anguish in his face now when the chances are passing him by, and that’s a little bit concerning because you really don’t want your players in the frontline losing confidence that easily.
“I think part of the reason is that he is just desperate to give these Rangers fans what they want and get them to where they want to be. It’s really, really tough.”
Lammers needs to step up
The new striker isn’t the only of the new arrivals at Ibrox to have had a disappointing start to his Rangers career, but he will need to step up quickly to appease a demanding crowd. Pressure has started to grow on Michael Beale’s position as manager, which then rubs off on the players.

The hostile atmosphere at Ibrox can often make or break players. Either they buy into the atmosphere and demands of the fans, or they can let it get to them and start affecting their performances with their desperation to impress, particularly for new arrivals.
For a new striker’s confidence to be dwindling after just nine games is not a good sign, but there is still hope he can find his feet after a tough start. A positive – in a weird way – is that nobody is performing at the moment, so it’s not like he stands out as a particularly bad performer.
His teammate and strike partner Cyriel Dessers has also become a cause for concern as he is yet to score his first league goal for the club, despite playing in each of their opening four games.
