Michael Beale sack domino effect sparked by Rangers hot seat as John Eustace tipped as replacement with Wayne Rooney to follow him

The possibility of Michael Beale losing his Rangers job is starting to look serious already as the knock-on effect down the managerial chain emerges.

The Ibrox boss is under major pressure already in the new season having lost three times in a month, culminating with the flat defeat to Celtic on Sunday (3 September) by a single goal.

A section of the Light Blues fanbase has already seen enough and is calling for the former Steven Gerrard assistant to go, having also been thrashed 5-1 in the crucial second leg of the PSV Eindhoven qualifier and lost the SPFL opener 1-0 at Kilmarnock.

Rangers

John Bennett is apparently minded to stick with the 43-year-old through the international break, but if results don’t improve it appears the chance of a change is real [Daily Record, 6 September].

Already John Eustace at Birmingham City has emerged as a candidate to replace Beale in Glasgow after his strong start to the campaign in the Championship, having avoided relegation last term.

And while names being linked to the job of a struggling manager is one thing, the same is now happening a further step down the chain with Wayne Rooney targeted to replace Eustace at St. Andrew’s [Telegraph, 7 September].

Rangers

The DC United boss has emerged as a serious candidate to take over if Eustace moves on, a development which emerged just a day after the current Blues boss was named as in the frame for the Rangers job [Daily Mail, 6 September].

That Beale is on the hot seat already, after the club sanctioned a heavy transfer spend this summer to facilitate his major rebuild, is either a damning indictment of his start to the season or a trigger-happy overreaction depending to your perspective.

But if Bennett is looking to stick with the current man for now it appears that a set of dominoes have already been linked up for if Beale can’t lift his side, and a third managerial change in as many seasons can’t be discounted now.

In other Rangers news, Beale will have averted the current “crisis” if he manages a specific achievement according to Keith Jackson.
