Todd Cantwell breaks silence telling Rangers fans ‘you deserve to see better’ after Old Firm defeat
Todd Cantwell has broken his silence following Rangers 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season, telling fans, “You deserve to see better.”
The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Michael Beale’s side were beaten in front of an irritated Ibrox crowd on Sunday (3 September), with many fans beginning to lose patience following Rangers’ embarrassing defeat to PSV earlier in the week.
Cantwell hadn’t spoken following the defeat until Wednesday afternoon (6 September) when he spoke out via an Instagram story, with the belief that his silence could be viewed as “cowardly” given the poor performance of the side in the early stage of the season.

In the Instagram story, he wrote: “We need actions not words however silence can seem cowardly in these times. We need unity and togetherness to turn this season successful.
“It’s not the start we wanted however everything is still in our hands. You fans are incredible and you deserve to see better! Over to us.”

So much of the pressure currently being felt at Ibrox has been directed to Beale and rightly so as the way he has set up the side this season has left more than a lot to be desired and if he wants to be a success he has to improve himself.
But what Cantwell has said is right, the buck ultimately stops with the players and if they want to ease the anger and frustration of their supporters, they have to improve their performances this season individually and sooner rather than later.

The former Norwich midfielder hasn’t been too poor, but he can be better than he has shown this campaign at Ibrox., However, he is also good enough to be the lightning rod that gets the Gers’ season up and running if he can get back to his best.
What isn’t necessarily true however is the future remaining in the Ibrox club’s hands. They have given Celtic a four-point lead far too early on in the season and it means they are already behind their Old Firm rivals after only a month of football.
They will already be relying on Brendan Rodgers’ side to slip up if they want to be crowned Scottish Premiership champions.
