Rangers star Kemar Roofe caught in embarrassing social media gaffe after Old Firm incident

Rangers forward Kemar Roofe has been involved in an embarrassing social media gaffe following the defeat to Celtic on Sunday (3 September).

The Jamaican international posted a picture of himself on his Instagram on 5 September scoring the disallowed goal in the Old Firm despite the strike being ruled for a foul in the build-up.

After a number of social media users shared their surprise at the 30-year-old posting the image, he has since deleted it after seemingly having second thoughts about whether it was the right option.

It was a bit of a bizarre move from Roofe to post the photo two days after the event, not only because the goal was ruled out but also because his side lost the game.

The fact he didn’t write anything in the caption makes it even stranger, as he could’ve been posting it in the belief that the goal should have stood.

But instead, he didn’t put anything and his reason for posting the image is unknown, given that it has now been deleted.

All it really did was hand the opportunity for opposing fans – particularly of the Celtic variety – to mock him and the club even further, but it appears as though he eventually realised that.

There’s a chance it may not have even been the forward that put the post on Instagram, as it’s widely known that many footballers have their social media accounts managed by someone else.

Roofe will no doubt be extremely frustrated to have seen his goal disallowed after Cyriel Dessers was adjudged to have fouled Gustaf Lagerbielke in the build-up to it.

That obviously played a major role in the Gers eventually losing the game as things could have panned out very differently if it had been allowed to stand.

There have been a number of pundits that have come out and said that the goal should have been given, including many that have an affiliation with Celtic.

But unfortunately for Roofe, it isn’t a situation he’s going to get back and he will be looking to put that – as well as his social media gaffe – quickly behind him.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has made an admission about an incident in the Old Firm game.
