Dinamo Zagreb want to sign Rangers defender Borna Barisic before Friday transfer deadline

Dinamo Zagreb want to sign Rangers left-back Borna Barisic before Friday’s transfer deadline, but know a deal is “almost impossible” report Germanijak.

Writing on their website (6 September), the Croatian news outlet report that the Gers left-back is wanted with his current Ibrox deal set to expire next summer.

But while a deal before this week’s deadline is highly unlikely, they are plotting an attempt in January when he will be free to speak to clubs unless he signs a new deal between now and then, with talks already taking place.

“Now a new name has come out, Dinamo wants Borna Barisic,” they wrote.

“The Croatian representative has entered the last year of his contract with Glasgow Rangers, the Scottish media have been writing for the last few days that he could sign a new one, but, of course, Barisic is in a situation where he can choose what he will do.

“In Maksimir, they smelled an opportunity, Barisic was shyly mentioned in some previous transfer deadlines, however, as we know, it is difficult, almost impossible, that they will succeed in realizing the transfer by Friday and the end of the summer market.

“They have taken action, some contacts already exist, but at this moment it is more certain that the return of Borna Barisic will be worked on during the fall.”

Time to change

Barisic hasn’t been deemed as good enough by the fans for almost two full seasons now and yet by the looks of things he is still first-choice under Michael Beale.

Barring the odd good delivery with his left-foot, he tends to cause more issues than solve problems for us and defensively he simply isn’t god enough to be at the level we need him to be.

Ridvan is already at the club and was seen as the replacement but injuries have harmed him badly at Ibrox so far, so a new option may need to be brought in to be more reliable but it’s clear that Barisic needs to be moved on.

His contract being set to expire is the perfect time to do that, but if the club do renew his deal it would mean we can get some cash for him instead of losing him for free.

Either way if this interest is true then it’s something Rangers should seriously consider in January, but not before, as we can’t afford to be left short after our bad start.
