Ally McCoist drops Michael Beale sack verdict after Rangers loss v Celtic

Ally McCoist has admitted he doesn’t think Michael Beale is under pressure for his Rangers job yet despite the 1-0 loss to Celtic at Ibrox.

The Gers boss has been linked with the sack with the club reportedly making contact with former defender Kevin Muscat for the role after crashing out of the Champions League and losing to their biggest rivals in a matter of days.

But McCoist, speaking live on talkSPORT (6 September), doesn’t think that the club should change direction “yet”, although he admitted that the fans are “very restless” right now.

“No, not quite yet. But the natives were very restless at the end of the game,” he said.

“It was one of these games where the losing manager was going to get a bit of stick and that was certainly the case. As for the players, I thought Rangers were poor to be honest.

“You can talk about the goal that got disallowed and all that. But I thought Rangers were poor against a very, very average Celtic team.”

Poor

There is no way around it, that this has been a poor season so far for Celtic and we’re only just entering September.

We are already out of the Champions League despite earning a good result in the home leg, we’ve already lost to Celtic at Ibrox and as it stands we sit four points behind Celtic after just four games, with two wins and two losses.

That’s simply not good enough for Rangers, but also when you consider the fact that Michael Beale was backed so heavily in the summer to shape the squad in his own image we need to be seeing more.

But while it hasn’t been good enough, he deserves time to get things right and right now there are no outstanding candidates to replace him anyway.

We can’t jump from manager to manager every time that things don’t go exactly to plan, so lets get behind him for the next period of the season to see if there are improvements and progression before making such a huge decision.
