Alan Brazil namedrops Rangers in ‘ridiculous’ financial verdict live on talkSPORT

Scottish clubs such as Rangers and Aberdeen need more money if they are to compete in Europe, according to Alan Brazil.

The talkSPORT host has asked for more television revenues in Scottish football after the Gers were knocked out of the Champions League by PSV.

Rangers lost their qualifying play-off match against the Dutch side 7-3 on aggregate, and will now compete in this season’s Europa League.

“I keep saying this, but we need more money from television revenues in Scotland,” Brazil said live on talkSPORT. “You just look at what happened to Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and Rangers in Europe.

“It’s ridiculous the difference between what the Premier League in England gets and what Scotland gets.”

More money needed

It’s clear that there is not as much money in Scotland as there is in competitions such as the Premier League, and unfortunately for clubs like Rangers, that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.

Michael Beale’s side went crashing out of Europe’s premier competition last Wednesday (30 August), having been in the game going into the second leg following their 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

But it remains to be seen how successful they would have been in the Champions League had they made it to the group stages, with the Gers struggling massively last time out.

It is now up to their fierce rivals Celtic, who are waving the Scottish flag in the Champions League thanks to their automatic qualification to the group stages.

But Brendan Rodgers’ side will no doubt be up against it from the very start after being drawn in Group E alongside Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Feyenoord.

In other Rangers news, a Gers swoop for a free agent has been mooted, with the player capable of filling the gap left by Ryan Kent.
