Alfredo Morelos sends Rangers message as Santos transfer confirmed
Alfredo Morelos has sent a late farewell message to Rangers fans after his free transfer to Santos was confirmed on Monday 4 September.
The Colombian striker was released by the Ibrox club at the end of the 2022/23 campaign having not been offered an extension to contract, with Michael Beale keen to reinvigorate his strike force with several new signings.
But having just confirmed his switch to the Brazilian club, the Colombian striker took to Twitter to share a goodbye statement with the Light Blues’ fans and thanked everyone involved at Ibrox for making his time in Glasgow so special.
Writing in the statement via Twitter on Monday (4 September), Morelos ended with: “Today, I close this chapter with gratitude in my heart and the certainty that I will always carry these colours with me wherever I go. This is not a final farewell but a see you later filled with hope. See you in the future Rangers.
“I will always be ready to be there for my friends in Royal Blue.”
Goodbye
It is a shame how Morelos’ time at Ibrox came to an end, as had things been slightly different in the final stages of his time in Glasgow we would be discussing a modern-day Rangers great, but things fizzled out far too quickly.
The 27-year-old was nowhere near fit enough last season to be an effective frontman for Michael Beale’s side and struggled to have a particularly effective season, scoring 11 times in 30 Scottish Premiership games and failing to find the net once in the Champions League.

Over his entire career in Scotland, the Colombian has been impressive however, scoring a goal every 150 minutes and registering over 100 goal involvements in 165 matches, but it just feels as though there could have always been more.
Having been made a free agent most thought Morelos would have his pick of clubs for his next move, but all in all, he’s ended up getting a pretty uninspiring two-year deal in Brazil rather than staying in Europe, a fair step down from European nights with Rangers.
