Rangers news as Michael Beale in bother at Ibrox with John Bennett talks mooted

Keith Jackson has insisted that Michael Beale is already in bother at Rangers, suggesting that John Bennett may even call him in for talks over the international break.

The Daily Record journalist suggested that Beale looked confused as his side compounded their Champions League embarrassment to PSV with a pitiful defeat to Celtic on Sunday (3 September).

Bennett backed Beale heavily this summer in the transfer market, with nine new arrivals at Ibrox in the hope that it would help them overthrow Celtic, but so far there has been little evidence of success.

Writing for the Daily Record on Monday (4 September), he said: “Let’s just say he’s in a rather significant spot of bother now.

“It would not seem unreasonable at all should chairman John Bennett call him in for a quiet word now the season has been placed on pause for the international break.

“Beale pressed on the panic button, the more confused the manager was made to look. He needs to bounce back immediately. Lifting the first silverware of the season might buy him the breathing space he requires to stop a drama from turning into a full-blown crisis.”

Time’s ticking

The pressure is always on when you’re in charge at Ibrox, but Beale has managed to pour petrol on his fire with the Gers performances in the last week, with two defeats where the Light Blues have genuinely looked unable to lay a glove on their opponents.

With the money spent over the transfer window, any criticism will be exacerbated and rightly so. Beale was vocal in his need to revolutionise his squad over the summer and now they look to be playing some of the worst football of his reign so far.

Rabbi Matondo and Kemar Roofe were picked in attack at Ibrox, while Sam Lammers, Danilo and Abdallah Sima were rooted to the bench in what is the biggest game of the season so far. Why did Beale spend so much money on players he doesn’t trust?

If the Ibrox boss can survive the mounting pressure over the international break, he is going to have to get things right very quickly when matches resume, otherwise, he may not get the chance to win the first silverware of the season as Jackson suggested.
