Chris Sutton at odds with Sky Sports pundit amid ‘ridiculous’ Rangers controversy v Celtic
Chris Sutton was at odds with Kenny Miller after Rangers had a goal disallowed in the first half against Celtic on Sunday (3 September).
Speaking on commentary for Sky Sports in the Old Firm game, the former Hoops forward said there was contact from Cyriel Dessers on Gustaf Lagerbielke before the Nigerian forward laid the ball into Kemar Roofe, who superbly finished for what he thought was the opening goal.
After the goal was then ruled out following a VAR review, Miller was adamant it should have stood in what will no doubt go down as a controversial moment.

“It’s ridiculous if he gives the free-kick for that,” said Miller.
There was then a cheer from the Gers fans as they thought the referee had indicated that the goal would stand, but he had actually given a Celtic free-kick.
“You don’t usually hear Rangers fans cheer like that,” said Sutton.
The former Gers forward then argued that the officials had made the “wrong” decision.
Sutton responded by saying: “There is contact. It’s how much.”
But Miller stood firm on his view, as he added: “Who initiates the contact? Who knows? That’s not a free-kick.”
Soft
It was an extremely soft decision for the referee to give a foul against Dessers and one that could really prove pivotal in such a big game after Roofe showed great composure to pick out the back of the net.
It appeared as though the Celtic defender slowed down and waited for the Rangers forward before ensuring that there was contact.
There definitely wasn’t enough in it to rule out the goal, but it’s no surprise to see Sutton, who is always going to go in favour of the Hoops, suggest it was actually a foul.

It came at a point where the Light Blues were on top and would’ve no doubt turned the volume up in Ibrox even more than it already was.
With Celtic grabbing a goal to take the lead right on the verge of half-time, that could be a decision that is looked back upon at the end of the game, with the Gers having every right to be frustrated.
In other Rangers news, a pundit has urged the club to make upgrades to their squad as one star is named.
