Rangers want to sign Leicester City defender Harry Souttar, may need to offload before deal done
Rangers must offload a player before they are able to sign Harry Souttar in a last-gasp deal from Leicester, according to Tom Collomosse.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (1 September), the Daily Mail journalist reports that the central defender is allowed to leave the King Power Stadium before the 11pm deadline with Rangers interested in a deal.
But the Glasgow club must first make space in their squad before bringing him in, with Ben Davies and Leon King among those who could leave.
“Harry Souttar is another who can leave Leicester City today and while there is interest from Rangers, the Ibrox club may need to make space in their squad for him first,” he wrote.
Non-starter
At this stage of the window this deal seems like a non-starter because there are just too many moving parts and not enough time.
Michael Beale made Souttar, the younger brother of Ibrox’s John, his number one target to bolster the defence before the transfer window slammed shut but he first needed to see King or Davies move on to make space.

King was set for a loan move to England but that is now not happening according to reports with the situation to be re-evaluated in January, while Davies wants to stay and fight for his place despite interest from Stoke.
With those deals locked, there is no chance of Souttar coming in before the deadline tonight and Beale will have to go forward with these defensive options until January at least.
It’s a shame because Souttar was clearly keen on the move, but that’s what happens when you leave things late and have to rely on other things to get your business done.
