Rangers open talks for Leicester City defender Harry Souttar as deadline approaches

Rangers are in talks with Leicester City over a deal for Harry Souttar after making the centre-back their top priority, according to Rudy Galetti.

The Italian journalist told GIVEMESPORT on Friday [1 September] that discussions are ongoing as the clubs work to agree a valuation.

Aberdeen-born Souttar has been regularly linked with a move to Ibrox, where his brother John is already a regular in the heart of defence.

Galetti said: “Rangers are interested in a new centre-back. Souttar at the moment from Leicester is the top priority.

“Talks with the Foxes are ongoing to understand the margin and to find an agreement on the formula.”

Brotherly love

You have to wonder whether Rangers’ scouting department simply asked the defenders they currently have on their books if they can recommend any signings.

Should this move go through, it will be intriguing to see brothers John and Harry link up at the back for Rangers.

But time is very much against the Gers, even if they do have an hour more than clubs south of the border to push through a transfer.

Souttar – Harry, that is – only joined Leicester on a five-year deal at the end of January in a deal worth a reported £15million rising to £20m [BBC Sport].

The Australian helped his national side reach the last 16 of the World Cup a month earlier, which may explain why City paid such a large fee.

Given they splashed out so much for him earlier this year, Rangers will either have to tempt Leicester into a loan deal or find a fairly large sum of money.

If they do that, then this will be a signing that ticks pretty much every box.

In other Rangers news, multiple English clubs have reportedly held talks to sign a Gers player.
