Rangers transfer news as late Scott Wright exit now on cards at Ibrox

Scott Wright could be set for a late Rangers exit on deadline day, with English clubs lining up moves for the attacker, according to The Fourth Official.

Writing on their Patreon page on Thursday (31 August) they reported that the 26-year-old looks set to finally depart Ibrox with three or four English sides interested in signing him this summer, including Preston North End.

Wright had looked to be joining Turkish side Pendikspor earlier in the window, twice making the trip to Turkey after a £500,000 fee was agreed between the two clubs, but talks subsequently broke down over contract issues ending any hope of a potential switch.

The 26-year-old is yet to make an appearance in the Scottish Premiership this season having fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox and both he and those in charge in Glasgow have been looking for a potential suitor this summer.

Best for everyone

It has been clear for some time that Wright’s future lies away from Ibrox this season and hopefully in the coming hours he will be able to find a club where he is able to flourish and rediscover his form with consistent minutes.

The huge influx of players this summer in Glasgow has left many players pushed to the side at Ibrox and Wright like many others has found himself slipping down the pecking order through absolutely no fault of his own, instead just because of the inflated squad.

Wright’s relationship with the Ibrox club seems to be solid, having returned to first-team training following his failed attempted moves to Turkey, so hopefully all parties will be ensuring a deal can be reached that suits everyone involved.

Rangers

A drop to the Championship (or lower in the English football pyramid) may see the 26-year-old spark new life into his currently stalled career and a move to Preston especially could be an excellent switch this late in the window.

Ryan Lowe has been looking to add to his attacking options for the majority of the summer transfer window, suggesting that if Wright does head to Deepdale he will receive some consistent minutes.
