Rangers injury news as Steven Davis suffers another setback with surgery

Rangers legend Steven Davis has suffered another major injury setback after it was revealed he has had another operation on his knee by Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill.

The international boss revealed that Rangers’ number ten has had another small procedure on his knee in the last week, but feels more positive about where he is in terms of his recovery now.

O’Neill also shared that Davis hopes to be back on grass in six to eight weeks from now, not back playing, but out on the training pitch and in the gym in the next stage of his injury rehabilitation.

The Northern Ireland boss spoke to the Belfast Telegraph on 29 August, where he revealed: “Steven [Davis] had a small procedure just over a week ago on his knee which he feels a lot more positive about where he is in terms of his recovery.

“I think he hopes to be back on the grass maybe six to eight weeks from now. That doesn’t mean back playing, but for these long-term injuries, it’s important they get out of the gym and onto the grass so there’s a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.”

He later added: “The most important part is that they [Davis and Stuart Dallas] get back and they’re back playing again. We need to be patient for them.”

Ibrox return is still on the cards

Despite Davis’ contract having expired in July, the Rangers legend has been with the club over the summer as he continues his rehabilitation from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained in December 2022, working with the medical team at Ibrox.

The door has been left open for his return after recovering from this injury, with the number ten previously worn by Davis still left vacant despite the influx of signings through the door over the summer transfer window.

Michael Beale shared via the Daily Record [26 August] that the club would likely be waiting until closer to Christmas before making a decision on the future of the midfielder, but hinted at a stay as he shared his belief that Davis could still have something to offer his side.

The Rangers boss has called for Davis to lead by example off of the pitch, in the gym and around the changing rooms as he always would in training, sharing once again the importance of having an experienced head around the club to help his teammates.
