Leeds United have not pulled trigger on Glen Kamara deal amid potential doubts in Rangers transfer mystery delay

Leeds United “have not pulled the trigger” on the deal to sign Glen Kamara and Daniel Farke may be having “second thoughts”, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via the newspaper’s website on 30 August that “for whatever reason” the Whites have still not gone ahead with the expected £5million move despite Michael Beale making clear the midfielder’s future “lies elsewhere” and the transfer deadline fast approaching.

Smyth suggests that with the Finland international training alone while not featuring for the Gers during preseason or the opening weeks of the campaign the Leeds boss might have been put off, with a separate pursuit of Werder Bremen’s Ilia Gruev now underway.

Scottish outlets have continued to report that Kamara’s move to Elland Road was imminent in recent days, but the Leeds-based correspondent’s confusion at the mystery delay suggests it may not be a done deal.

The English side have reportedly been putting in other bids for multiple midfielders in recent days while the Kamara move is still unfinished.

Alarm bells?

Two days is a long time when it comes to the tail end of the summer transfer window so there is still plenty of time for Kamara’s move to be complete and much more.

But it is impossible not to have some doubts now that the situation has got this close to the deadline without a resolution.

There might be some benefit to Leeds if the sale doesn’t go through now in that they will save that money and potentially sign a player who is more match-ready.

Rangers

But from a Rangers perspective the deal collapsing now would be a major disappointment, and even more so for Kamara himself.

If the 27-year-old isn’t even currently training with the first team squad it shows that he and his manager’s heads are elsewhere, so even if he was to remain at Ibrox past the deadline it is difficult to see him getting a chance to actually play, at least for the foreseeable future.

Spending months stuck in limbo before the January window, at best, would be hugely disruptive to Kamara’s career, and the Light Blues paying a player to not play while missing out on what was expected to be a huge profit on his initial £50,000 fee can’t be dressed up as a positive.

In other Rangers news, another Ibrox player is expected to leave before the deadline with multiple clubs in late race to sign him.
