Chris Sutton reacts instantly as Rangers lose 5-1 v PSV in Champions League
Chris Sutton has mocked Rangers for being knocked out of the Champions League by PSV.
Michael Beale’s side lost 5-1 in Eindhoven on Wednesday night (30 August), meaning they lost the overall Champions League play-off 7-3 on aggregate after drawing the first leg 2-2 at Ibrox.
It means that the Gers will play in the Europa League group stages after the upcoming international break but Sutton couldn’t help having a dig at the Ibrox giants during their defeat in the Netherlands.
He took to Twitter to say: “Not a good night for Scottish football and the coefficient…”
Yawn
It was always going to be hard for Rangers to qualify for the Champions League group stages.
Last season, we beat PSV at the same stage to get there but it’s obvious that was a fluke thanks to the farce that followed when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was in charge.
But it doesn’t seem Beale is even capable of getting the Gers to get a fluke victory.
We’ve had some pretty poor results since the season started but the biggest test will be this weekend against Celtic at Ibrox.
If we lose that, the Scottish Premiership title race could already be as good as over and where does that leave Beale?
He doesn’t have his pals on the board any more so it’s unlikely that there’ll be much patience for him if it really does continue to go pear-shaped as the season progresses.

Hopefully being in the Europa League means we’re more competitive in Europe this season and that can also provide some much-needed momentum for the Scottish Premiership.
Sutton can carry on chiming away about Scottish football’s UEFA coefficient, which was massively boosted by Rangers and led to Celtic’s automatic qualification to the Champions League group stages both this season and last.
When was the last time he saw his team do anything of note in European football?
In other Rangers news, Beale has freed up wages to bring in a new signing as the transfer deadline approaches.
