Rangers do want Harry Souttar before transfer deadline with Leicester City man ‘excited’ to join brother at Ibrox

Rangers want to sign Harry Souttar before the transfer deadline and are “trying to get the defender to Ibrox”, according to The 4th Official.

The online outlet reported via Patreon on Monday (28 August) that “two very good sources” have relayed the information that the the Leicester City man is “excited” to join his brother John in Glasgow.

The Foxes “want to move him on” and according to T4O Rangers are “definitely one of the frontrunners for his signature” ahead of the deadline.

T4O acknowledges that Stevie Clifford of Four Lads Had a Dream has already relayed information from the club that the 24-year-old is not coming [Rangers Review, 28 August], but is sticking by their sources and says: “I trust the information I was given”.

Yes or no?

It appears that the club may be officially keeping this under wraps with the outside hope that they can in fact land a late deal before the window shuts.

But with conflicting reports coming out it will be impossible to know for sure until the deadline passes and Souttar is either in the Rangers squad alongside his brother or he isn’t.

Micheal Beale has repeatedly been linked with a move for another senior centre-back this summer, and despite the return of Leon Balogun as emergency cover for Leon King’s injury the manager hasn’t been able to land one.

Pursuits of Auston Trusty and Jonathan Panzo ultimately proved fruitless, while Millwall’s Jake Cooper has now signed a new contract to rule him out [BBC Sport, 25 August].

King himself now appears to be on the brink of a loan exit to England himself [Herald, 28 August], and with regular injuries arising to the centre-back group Beale can arguably never have enough cover.

Souttar made 12 Premier League appearances at the King Power last season after switching from Stoke City but hasn’t featured at all yet this term, so it seems that a deal is there to be done if the club are actually trying to.

In other Rangers news, a Premier League giant has been in contact with a disgruntled Ibrox ace over leaving the club.
