Chris Sutton wowed by James Tavernier and Kemar Roofe in Rangers win v Ross County
Chris Sutton was wowed by James Tavernier’s “majestic” goal, as well as Kemar Roofe, as he praised the Rangers duo, naming them in his Team of the Week for the Daily Record.
Sutton was full of praise for Tavernier and Roofe alongside teammate John Souttar after their performances in the comfortable 2-0 win against Ross County at Dingwall on 26 August.
Tavernier scored a beautiful goal from around 25 yards seeing the ball dip into the top left corner, while Roofe’s goal was also well-taken as he held off his man before swivelling to finish at the near post, earning the duo particular plaudits from Sutton.

Writing via his Team of the Week column in the Daily Record’s print edition [27 August, pg 40] Sutton stated: “Kemar Roofe netted for Rangers while James Tavernier’s strike was majestic. John Souttar also played well at the back.”
Gers finally starting to click
Sutton’s brief but glowing assessment of the three Gers men displays just how impressive Michael Beale’s side were in their dominant victory away from home, showing signs that they may finally be starting to click after a busy summer transfer window.
Singling out Tavernier and Roofe for particular praise is correct. Both players stood out from the bunch in very impressive performances which will have pleased their boss as they look to push on from a slow start to the season.

Ibrox News’ player ratings listed Roofe as the most impressive player on the day, echoing Sutton’s assessment of the forward who returned to the starting lineup and staked a powerful claim to remain there despite plenty of new recruits in his position.
Cyriel Dessers, on the other hand, still has room for improvement after missing some big chances where one would have expected Beale’s new key striker to score. He is still adapting to the new environment so will be given time, but needs to step up.
