Maccabi Haifa submit last-minute £2.5m bid to sign Rangers ace Ianis Hagi

Maccabi Haifa tried to hijack Alaves’ loan move to sign Rangers ace Ianis Hagi by submitting a bid to sign the Romanian permanently, according to Fanatik.

The Turkish news outlet reported on Sunday morning (27 August) that Israeli giants Haifa were willing to pay £2.5million for the 24-year-old.

However, Maccabi Haifa have lost out in the race to sign the Istanbul-born Romania international because it has now been confirmed that he’s joined Alaves on a season-long loan.

All the best, Ianis

It’s a shame that Hagi is having to make this loan move because he showed in his first couple of seasons at Ibrox that he could be a star in the making.

Inconsistent performances, managerial changes and a serious knee injury have hampered his development.

However, this loan could be the making of the Romanian attacking midfielder.

Hagi returned to action at the back end of last season and although he didn’t exactly light up the Scottish Premiership, it set him on his way to be fully fit for this season.

He joins an Alaves side who are ninth in La Liga at this early stage of the season after losing 1-0 to Cadiz and then shocking Spanish football with a 4-3 win over Europa League champions Sevilla.

It will be tough to break into their starting line-up after that victory but there’s no doubt that there’ll be a good opportunity for him to get game time in Spain when Michael Beale doesn’t seem to fancy him at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a make-or-break situation has emerged for Beale at Ibrox.
