Derek Ferguson wowed by Borna Barisic for Rangers v Ross County on BBC

Derek Ferguson was stunned by Rangers opening goal against Ross County after a “wicked” ball was delivered by Borna Barisic for Kemar Roofe.

The corner delivered from the Croatian found Roofe at the back post, who managed to hold off the defender while adjusting his body to turn the ball in at the near post, setting Rangers on their way to a 2-0 win at Dingwall.

Crosses to the back post had been causing issues for Ross County when Gers were given opportunities to swing corners in, which was clearly something the Glasgow club had been working on on the training ground and was brilliantly executed by Barisic.

Kemar Roofe will be one of plenty to depart Ibrox this summer

Speaking on BBC Sportsound during Rangers v Ross County [12:55], Ferguson stated: “Great delivery.

“It’s a wicked ball in. What technique by Roofe. He’s only seven yards out, but it’s a nice finish.”

Showing his worth once again

Roofe was able to leave a lasting impression on fans, commentators and neutrals alike with a fantastic finish for Rangers’ opening goal of the game, taking the chance that many likely would have struggled to even reach while holding his defender off at the same time.

His play throughout the first half was excellent all-round, linking up brilliantly with his teammates when dropping into midfield or running the channels to give more options and leave space for his fellow strikers.

One such occurrence came early in the game when Roofe found space out wide and was able to curl an inch-perfect cross onto Cyriel Dessers’ head at the back post before his effort diverted was saved by the legs of the Ross Laidlaw.

Michael Beale will be pleased with the way his new-look front line played in that first half as they looked dangerous throughout, playing some fantastically intricate football between them. While the opening goal came from a corner, the signs are looking positive.
