Ianis Hagi ‘likely’ to leave Rangers before deadline

Ianis Hagi will “likely” leave Rangers and find a new club after honest chats with Michael Beale about his future, according to the Football Scotland.

Writing on their official website (25 August), the newspaper report that the manager and playmaker held talks after he was left out of the squad for the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven last week.

And it’s now expected that the Romania international will leave for more regular football elsewhere, following Glen Kamara out of the door as he edges towards a move away too.

“Beale said he has held honest chats with Hagi and told the media last weekend that between now and the end of the window, it is likely Hagi will find a new home,” they wrote.

Expected

With all the attacking arrivals in the squad this summer, plus the way that Beale wants to play it always looked unlikely that Hagi would get back in the mix as a regular.

The boss wants to play fast, energetic, attacking football with lots of fluidity in his front line and Hagi, while talented isn’t someone who thrives in that type of play.

He was given a new deal almost immediately after Beale arrived after recovering from a long-term injury but it’s clear now that the vision of the club has gone in another direction and he is surplus to requirements.

Whether it’s a loan or permanent move away it makes sense for all parties to do something different this season, while Beale looks to use the likes of Tom Lawrence, Todd Cantwell, Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell in Hagi’s preferred role.

It’s a shame and fans will still love him, but this has been expected and been coming for a while. Now we just need to ensure we get the right deal for us to make it worthwhile.
